Cheaper, Greener Electricity Rejected by Conservatives at RBC
Our Green Motion, proposed by Cllr Don Whyte, was defeated last night (Thursday 20 Oct) after a rather long Full Council meeting at Runnymede Borough Council.
Yet again we came away with a feeling that the Tory led council is just playing with their Climate Change agenda.
Our Green Motion was put forward in support of the Local Electricity Bill, a cross party Parliamentary initiative to promote small scale local renewable energy generation. This was at zero cost to Runnymede and would potentially enable the supply of cheaper, greener electricity to residents. Time after time we see the Conservative team reject sensible suggestions, just because they are brought forward by opposition groups. Meanwhile, there has never been a Climate Emergency declared in Runnymede!

Another opposition group also brought forward a motion to "Keep Runnymede & Surrey Fracking Free" - this was also rejected. It is interesting that our MP, Dr. Ben Spencer recently voted to support Fracking in Parliament.
