Impact of Heathrow Expansion

26 Feb 2017

The Tory government has broken the promise in their manifesto, that there would be "no expansion of Heathrow". Anyone living within 10 to 15 miles of the airport will be affected by both noise and air pollution as well as additional pressure on our road network and over stretched infrastructure such as hospitals, GP surgeries and schools.

The third runway will create at least 120k new jobs, in an area which already has high employment, as well as an affordable housing shortage. "There are so many other options, outside of the London area, which Fighting for us would benefit greatly from the additional jobs," said campaigner Will Coles, "but unfortunately the Tory government has decided on Heathrow as they believe it is more attractive to global trade after we leave the EU".

A consultation is now open on https://www.gov.uk/government /collections/heathrow-airport- expansion The Lib Dems will continue to oppose the 3 rd runway.
