Liberal Democrats welcome students at Royal Holloway Freshers’ Fair
This week, Runnymede Liberal Democrats were thrilled to co-host a stall with the Young Liberals at Royal Holloway’s Freshers Fair, where we connected with a wave of passionate and engaged students. The event, a cornerstone of Freshers Week, gave us the perfect opportunity to speak to new and returning students about our values and the importance of political engagement, particularly at the local level.
Our stall was buzzing with energy, attracting many students eager to learn more about the Liberal Democrats and how they can get involved. It was an inspiring reminder of how politically aware and enthusiastic today’s students are, with many asking questions about policies, campaigns, and how they could make a real difference in the local community.
Liam Elvish, who led the stall on behalf of Runnymede Lib Dems and the Young Liberals, was thrilled with the response and engagement. He said, "It was really encouraging to see so many students not only interested in our policies but keen to get involved and make their voices heard. We had some great conversations about how we can work together to create a more open, tolerant, and fair society. It’s clear that students want to be part of the change, and we’re excited to help them on that journey."
The event proved to be a great success for our local party, with dozens wanting to learn more about the Young Liberals and our work in Runnymede. It’s just the beginning of what we hope will be a strong and lasting connection with the student community at Royal Holloway. We can’t wait to continue working together to fight for positive change in our borough!
Who are the Young Liberals?
The Young Liberals are the youth and student wing of the Liberal Democrats, representing members under 30. They play a vital role in shaping party policy and campaigning for progressive change. If you are under 30 and join the Liberal Democrats (students from £3 for the first year and then £6 a year thereafter) you’ll become a Young Liberal and have a chance to make your voice heard and drive real political action!
