Meet Your Local Lib Dem Candidate for Ottershaw
Hello! I'm Ronan McCaughey, and like many of you, I fell in love with our wonderful Ottershaw community when I moved here 10 years ago. You might have spotted me walking Eddie, my Scottish Terrier, around the village, noticed me cycling by, or even heard me (trying my best!) with the local male voice choir.
Through my work at the local church and fundraising for hospices, I've seen firsthand how much we can achieve when we work together. As a financial journalist, I know how important it is that every penny of your council tax is spent wisely. Here's what I want to achieve for Ottershaw:
Getting Council Finances Back on Track
The former Conservative Administration have left a debt of over £627 million at Runnymede Council. The new Administration also inherited a £5.2m budget saving challenge to be achieved over the next three years! As your councillor, I'll work with the new administration and existing Liberal Democrat councillors to sort this out fairly and sensibly, without cutting the services we all rely on.
A New GP Surgery That Works
While we already have one great GP surgery in Ottershaw, with the expectation that local population is going to increase due to more and more development, we want to make sure these facilities remain available for local people to access. The council has already identified land for an additional GP surgery, but we want to see a proper plan in place! Everyone should be able to see a doctor when they need to. I'll bring people together to make this happen.
Protecting Our Green Spaces
We're lucky to have such beautiful green spaces in Ottershaw. I'm backing Lib Dem plans for better meadow management across Runnymede and more biodiversity. Let's keep Ottershaw green and growing!
We're at a crucial moment for Runnymede
The Conservative administration has been removed from running the Council, but we need strong, principled voices who will genuinely stand up for our community - not councillors who claim to be independent but consistently vote with the Conservatives.
I'm standing because I believe Ottershaw deserves a fresh voice who'll fight for our community. I'd love to hear your thoughts - stop me for a chat when you see me out and about or drop me an email to info@runnymedelibdems.org.uk
