New Access Road In Bittams Lane Approved
A new access road from the proposed development known as Bittams D (Parklands) onto Bittams Lane, Chertsey, was approved at Wednesday evenings Planning Committee (3rd November 2021), despite Cllr Sylvia Whyte raising the issue about the unsuitability of Bittams Lane to have another access road. Surrey Highways are dismissive of local knowledge and the possibility of accidents on this very windy and narrow road stating that "It has multiple changes in horizontal and
vertical alignment along its length and significant narrowing of the carriageway at points. This
means that visibility is often restricted for road users, as well as those wishing to access
Bittams Lane. However, Bittams Lane does not demonstrate a particular incident black spot
when the RTI (Road Traffic Incident) records are interrogated." It is infuriating that we have to wait for a serious accident to happen before something is done, surely prevention is better than cure? The Borough Plan, which was approved in July 2020, outlines details for over 500 dwellings in the Bittams Triangle, as well as over 300 dwellings at St.Peter's Hospital. The Liberal Democrat group, along with the Independent Councillors in Ottershaw, were the only councillors to vote against against the plan.
