Runnymede and Weybridge Liberal Democrats welcome Carer Support while pushing for healthcare improvements
The Liberal Democrats have welcomed changes to Carer's Allowance earnings limits in yesterday's Budget, while emphasising that more action is needed to improve local healthcare services including GP and dental appointments, and cancer care waiting times.
Ellen Nicholson, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Runnymede and Weybridge, said: "I am particularly pleased to see the changes to Carer's Allowance earnings limits in yesterday's budget. This success comes after sustained campaigning by Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey and shows what can be achieved when we push for positive change."
"However, there is much more to do. Liberal Democrats will hold this Government's feet to the fire on their NHS promises, so people here in Runnymede and Weybridge can finally see a GP or NHS dentist when they need one."
The local party has called for urgent cross-party talks on social care, highlighting that fixing social care is crucial for reducing pressure on local health services and ensuring proper care for older residents.
"We're campaigning for urgent, real improvements in our local health services," Nicholson added. "This Government needs to deliver - anything less will be a total disappointment."
