Runnymede Borough Council vote to take part in the Great Big Green Week
We are delighted that a Motion brought forward by Cllr. Sylvia Whyte on behalf of the Runnymede Liberal Democrat Group, was unanimously approved at Full Council.
The Great Big Green Week took place in September last year and was the largest national campaign for climate and nature ever seen in the UK. Many Local Authorities supported the campaign which included initiatives such as
- Promotion of public transport at reduced cost
- Car free days
- Promotion of grow your own
- Walking & cycle events
- Recycling advice
- Nature documentary screenings
- Food prep workshops to limit food waste.
Over 4500 events celebrated were organised in communities to tackle climate change and protect green spaces.
"I am excited that Runnymede Borough Council have signed on to the Great Big Green Week in our borough" said Sylvia, "I feel that the Borough is lagging behind with tackling Climate Change, compared to some other Boroughs across the county. This initiative is something that can be done to raise awareness with little cost involved. I am looking forward to seeing what ideas the Officers will propose for September"
