Runnymede Council's £2.5 Million Energy Efficiency Drive
Runnymede Borough Council is pleased to announce the start of a £2.5 million energy efficiency initiative targeting over 160 council-owned homes. Planned under the previous administration, the programme is now being implemented, and the Runnymede Council Alliance (RCA) aims to build on these efforts with future green initiatives.
The programme is funded through a £1.25 million government grant, matched by £1.28 million from tenant rent payments. The upgrades will include solar panel installations and various types of insulation, such as external wall, cavity, and loft insulation. These improvements are expected to save residents an average of £473 per year, with some households potentially saving up to £750 annually.
The upgrades will also bring homes up to at least Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) grade C, improving energy efficiency, reducing heat loss, and lowering cooling needs—ultimately cutting energy consumption and carbon emissions.
This initiative supports the Council’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy, aiming to provide residents with high-quality, energy-efficient homes, enhancing comfort and mitigating rising energy prices. The RCA is committed to pursuing further sustainability initiatives to ensure a greener future for Runnymede.
Bell Group has been appointed as the primary contractor, and selected households will soon receive letters to arrange initial visits for assessing specific needs and determining suitable measures.
This £2.5 million programme is a win-win for residents and the environment. It delivers savings, improves living conditions, and contributes to the Council’s climate change goals. The RCA is dedicated to building on this foundation, showcasing proactive local governance to create a more sustainable future.
